Since our founding in 1996, Mermaid Junction Medical Centre has been the Medical Center of choice in the Mermaid Waters area. What started off as a small Medical Center has since grown into a center with 10 doctors. At Mermaid Junction Medical Centre, we offer patients all the attention and care they deserve in order to get them feeling healthy again.

Information

Consultation Fees

Bulk Billing is available providing you have a current Medicare Card.  Private fees will be charged to patients without a current Medicare Card.  A standard consultation is $70.00, a longer consultation is $100.00.  Procedures attract a higher fee.  Full payment is required on the day of consultation.
Please present your valid Medicare, Health Care or Pension Card at each appointment.

Appointments

Except in urgent cases, attendance is preferably by appointment, however, we have a flexible appointment system to cater for emergency, urgent cases and walk-ins.   Longer consultations are available on request, please let our receptionist know when booking your appointment.  If you are suffering unrelieved chest pain, symptoms suggestive of a stroke or severe trauma you should immediately call 000.

Telephone Calls

Our practice is accessible by telephone during business hours.  Our practice nurses’ will be able to assist with results or general queries.  We do try not to interrupt Doctor’s consultations unless the matter is urgent.  If you are calling about a family member, please remember that we are constrained by privacy regulations when discussing patients.

Recall/Reminder System

This practice participates in the State and National recalls and reminder systems and registers, please notify your Doctor should you wish to opt out.
We are committed to preventative care.  We may issue you with a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventative health services appropriate to your care.

Obtaining Test Results

Most results are back within 2 working days of the test being done. The Doctor reviews all
results. You should make an appointment with the Doctor to come back and discuss your test
results. All x-ray results require an appointment.

How To Obtain A Specialist Referral

An appointment with the Doctor is required for all referrals. Referrals to Specialist and/or other
Health Professionals are provided, as appropriate, after you have discussed your health problems
with the Doctor. Please make an appointment in this regard. Please be aware that we do not
accept telephone request for ongoing referrals.

Our Doctors

Dr Michael Choy – M.B., B.S. (Qld)
Michael has been a partner in our Practice since we first opened in 1996. His interests are all
aspects of General Practice with special interest in Skin Cancer and Paediatrics. Dr Choy is also
able to communicate in Mandarin and Cantonese.
Dr Phillip Frauenfelder – M.B., B.S. (Qld)
Dr Phil is also a partner in our Practice since we opened in 1996. Dr Phil’s special interest is Skin
Cancer Medicine.
Dr Karolina Lindemann – M.B. B.S. (Latvia) F.R.A.C.G.P.
Karolina joined our Practice in 1997. Her interests are Diabetes, Family Planning, Women’s
Health and is also trained for Implanon Insertion. Dr Lindemann is able to communicate in
Russian and French.
Dr Gerry Flynn – M.B.,Ch, F.R.C.P. (Edinburgh)
Gerry joined our Practice in 1999. His interest is Family Medicine and Children’s Health.
Dr Barney D’Costa – M.B., B.S. (Bombay)
Barney joined our Practice in 2002. His interest is General and Preventative Medicine and
Minor Surgical procedures.
Dr Thomas Vien – M.B., B.S. (Adelaide) F.R.A.C.G.P.
Thomas joined us in January 2018. He is interested in all aspects of Family Medicine and Preventative Medicine.
Dr Stevie Bray – M.B., B.S. (QLD) F.R.A.C.G.P.
Stevie joined our practice in July 2018. She has a special interest in Skin Cancer, Women’s
and Children’s Health, Antenatal and Post Natal Care.

Dr Ahmed Raghib - M.B., B.S. (QLD) BPharm(Hons) F.R.A.C.G.P.

Dr Raghib joined our practice in March 2020.  Dr Raghib has a special interest in Chronic Disease, Men's and Women's Health, Skin Cancer and Geriatric Medicine.

Dr Angela Livingstone-Blevins - M.B.,B.S. (QLD)

Dr Angela Livingstone Blevins rejoined our surgery in January 2021. She has a special interest in all aspects of Family Medicine, Women's and Children's Health, Antenatal and Post Natal Care.
